Markdown to HTML

Convert Markdown into HTML source for a publishing workflow. Headings, lists, emphasis and code become markup you can inspect and export. Raw HTML is escaped, and unsupported link destinations are removed.

How to convert Markdown to HTML

  1. Paste Markdown or choose a local .md, .markdown or text file.
  2. Choose whether to enable GitHub-style tables, strikethrough and task lists.
  3. Enable single-line-break conversion only if the target document needs explicit breaks.
  4. Select Convert Markdown. Inspect the generated HTML source and the report of escaped HTML or blocked destinations.
  5. Copy the fragment into a suitable editor, or download converted.html. Review the result in your target publishing system before release.

The output is an HTML fragment, without a document title, CSS, page metadata or a complete website wrapper. It is shown in a read-only text panel so the source remains inspectable.

What the Markdown parser converts

The maintained Marked parser recognizes headings, paragraphs, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, emphasis, links, images and fenced code blocks. Optional GitHub-style syntax adds tables, strikethrough, task lists and related extensions. GitHub-style syntax does not imply an exact reproduction of GitHub’s visual design or every GitHub feature.

Code blocks become pre/code markup; code is not executed and syntax highlighting is not added. A normal line break inside a paragraph remains a soft break unless you enable the line-break option. Markdown paragraph boundaries and explicit Markdown hard breaks still matter.

Markdown is forgiving text syntax. An unfinished emphasis marker may remain literal text instead of producing an error. This tool does not claim to validate a document against a strict Markdown schema, resolve template variables, evaluate MDX, run diagrams or render mathematical expressions.

A small publishing example

Input

# Notes

Read the **updated** guide.

- Check data
- Publish changes

Output

<h1>Notes</h1>
<p>Read the <strong>updated</strong> guide.</p>
<ul>
<li>Check data</li>
<li>Publish changes</li>
</ul>

The heading marker becomes a heading element and the two list items share a list container. The heading level is preserved: a top-level Markdown heading becomes h1. If your destination page already supplies its primary heading, start the fragment with an appropriate lower level. The converter does not infer the structure of another page.

Raw HTML, links and image handling

Raw HTML written inside Markdown is escaped into visible text. It is not passed through as an active script, iframe, style block or event handler. Links are restricted to HTTP, HTTPS, mailto and relative destinations; images use HTTP, HTTPS or relative destinations. Control characters, backslashes and unsupported schemes such as javascript or data are blocked. The report counts blocked destinations and escaped HTML fragments.

Generated markup is never inserted into this tool’s page as HTML. No linked page or image is fetched during conversion. If you later open or publish the downloaded HTML, its ordinary links and images can refer to external resources. Relative paths resolve against the destination document, so check their meaning there. Conversion is not a guarantee that content is trustworthy, licensed, accessible or appropriate to publish.

Practical uses and limitations

Convert a short README section, release note, help article or list into markup for an editor that accepts HTML. Keep the Markdown source for future edits. Use Text Diff to inspect changes between revisions and Slug Generator for a separate publishing path.

Input is limited to 256 KiB and runs in the shared cancellable worker with an eight-second timeout. Deeply nested or pathological input may need reducing. The converter does not download linked assets, inline styles, create email-specific layouts, convert HTML back to Markdown or format arbitrary HTML input. For escaped literal markup, use HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder.

Local processing and parser information

Pasted Markdown and selected files are processed in the browser. The converter does not upload documents, log input or automatically save it. Copy and Download are explicit exports. Reset clears the page’s form and result, while exported copies remain yours to manage. The parser is bundled locally and loaded only when this conversion runs; see Marked’s documentation for the underlying syntax parser.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my HTML tag visible rather than active?

Raw HTML is escaped deliberately. Use Markdown syntax for supported structure; this tool does not offer an unsafe passthrough mode.

Is the output a complete HTML webpage?

No. It is a fragment for review and integration. The tool does not add styles, metadata or a document wrapper.

Why did an incomplete Markdown expression not produce an error?

Many unmatched markers are valid literal text in Markdown. Inspect the resulting markup rather than treating conversion success as editorial validation.
